Iran issued a fresh Strait Warning after Britain and France discussed a new naval mission near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials strongly opposed the planned deployment. They also warned foreign warships against entering the sensitive waterway.
Ali Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, delivered the warning through a social media statement on Saturday. He claimed foreign military activity would increase tensions across the region. Furthermore, he argued that outside powers should not interfere in Gulf security matters.
According to Gharibabadi, the arrival of British and French naval forces could worsen instability. He described the deployment as an unnecessary military escalation. In addition, he said the mission could deepen existing political disputes in the Middle East.
The Iranian official stressed that regional nations should manage maritime security independently. He also insisted Iran holds the right to protect nearby waters. Therefore, Tehran rejected any foreign involvement around the Strait of Hormuz.
Gharibabadi directly criticized Western governments during his remarks. He claimed some countries contributed to instability through military pressure and political actions. Meanwhile, he argued that stronger military deployments would not create long-term peace.
The Strait Warning also included a direct message to countries supporting the proposed operation. Iran warned that any military cooperation with the United States could trigger a rapid response. As a result, tensions surrounding the mission increased sharply.
French officials previously explained the naval operation’s objectives. They stated that warships would help secure shipping routes and support mine-clearing activities if fighting declines. However, Iran dismissed those explanations and maintained its opposition.
Tehran insisted only regional coastal nations should oversee security operations in the strategic passage. Iranian leaders also repeated that foreign military involvement threatens stability instead of improving safety.
Britain recently confirmed plans to deploy HMS Dragon to the Middle East. The advanced Type 45 destroyer could support future international maritime operations. Nevertheless, British officials described the mission as defensive and limited in scope.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron both backed discussions surrounding the security mission. Officials from both governments stressed that protecting commercial shipping remains the primary objective.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important maritime routes. Large volumes of oil and gas exports travel through the narrow passage every day. Consequently, any military tension in the area quickly attracts global attention.
