A new book has claimed that Meghan Markle had to reevaluate her expectations after discovering that her husband, Prince Harry, was not a billionaire.
The revelation comes from author Tom Quinn’s new book Yes Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, which delves into the experiences of those within the Royal Family’s inner circle. According to an excerpt published in The Times, Meghan’s American upbringing and perception of royal life initially led her to make assumptions about the wealth and lifestyle associated with marrying into Britain’s monarchy.
The book claims that Meghan, 43, who married Prince Harry in 2018, was surprised to learn that Harry’s net worth was approximately £20 million. Quinn writes, “Meghan Markle had a typically American view of the Royal Family before she joined it—life was all about castles, glittering balls, and limitless wealth and ease.”
A royal staff member reportedly stated, “She expected a billionaire and she got a millionaire.” The author goes on to suggest that Meghan quickly reassessed her assumptions about her new family’s lifestyle and adjusted to the reality of royal life, which often contrasts with Hollywood’s image of grandeur and extravagance.
Meghan and Harry now reside in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the couple has focused on various projects, including media deals, public speaking engagements, and philanthropy, carving out a new life for themselves in the United States.
