Ukraine should join NATO

Must read

Nigel Farage, a prominent UK politician known for his close ties to Donald Trump, has stated that it is “probably essential” for Ukraine to become a member of NATO. This declaration seemingly puts him at odds with the U.S. president’s administration as discussions about peace commence.

Farage’s endorsement marks a shift from his previous stance, where he suggested that NATO and the European Union had provoked Vladimir Putin into invading Ukraine. He had previously claimed that the eastward expansion of NATO and the EU gave Putin a “reason” to tell the Russian people “they’re coming for us again”.

Trump spoke with Putin on Wednesday and expressed his desire to begin peace talks immediately. Following Trump’s announcement of direct talks with Putin, UK Defence Secretary John Healey emphasized that Ukraine must be included in any negotiations about its future. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of Ukraine’s close involvement in discussions concerning its own future.

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has suggested that Europe should bear the “overwhelming share” of providing aid to Ukraine and appeared to rule out Ukrainian membership in NATO.
