A 29-year-old man has been charged after climbing Elizabeth Tower, home to Big Ben. Daniel Day, from Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, faces charges of public nuisance and trespassing on a protected site.
Police responded to the incident early in the morning, finding Day barefoot on a ledge, carrying a Palestinian flag. He remained there for over 16 hours before being brought down safely with a cherry picker just after midnight.
The spectacle drew crowds of onlookers, while Westminster Bridge was briefly closed. Specialist officers and fire crews worked to resolve the situation with minimal risk. Day is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
