Jaguar and Land Rover Pauses US Shipments Amid Tariff Fallout

Must read

Jaguar Land Rover has announced a temporary halt to all US-bound shipments as it works to navigate new trading terms following tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. A 25% levy on UK car imports came into effect this week, prompting concerns across the automotive industry.

In a statement, JLR said it was “taking short-term actions including a shipment pause in April, as we develop our mid to longer-term plans.” The US is the UK car industry’s second-largest export market, worth £8.3bn in the year to Q3 2024.

Additional tariffs on auto parts are expected next month, alongside a separate 10% duty on other UK imports. Global markets have tumbled in response, with the FTSE 100 suffering its steepest drop since the pandemic.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has urged a calm response, stating a trade war is “in nobody’s interest.” He has begun talks with European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, while UK officials continue discussions with the US over a possible trade deal.
