Jamie T has opened up about his new album and his return to live performances at Reading 2026.
The London musician, whose real name is Jamie Treays, will release his sixth album, Ghosts (100 Days Of Mourning), on October 9.
Treays built the album from voice memos he collected throughout his career. Looking back at his past helped him process difficult experiences and better understand his journey.
“I think it helped me to process things,” he said. “I hadn’t done a lot of that in my career. It’s been so fast, and I’ve just always been on the go.”
He said the experience also changed how he viewed his past. “I look back more fondly now on it all than I maybe did a few years ago,” he said.
Treays described the album-making process as a helpful experience. He also said he now feels happier about where he stands in life.
“I’m really happy to be where I am,” he said. “I think that’s because I did that record and because I managed to look back through all those things and put it to bed.” The musician also discussed his struggles with burnout after his 2023 Finsbury Park performance.
“I think I had pushed myself too hard by that point,” he said.“Something in my mind was telling me something’s not right.”
Treays said he continues to learn how to balance music with his wellbeing.“I feel like I still am working out a way of doing it where I feel safer in this experience,” he said. “So I’d love to keep going with it.”
He now feels positive about his return to music. “I feel great at the moment,” he said. “I’m really proud of the new record and excited to play it to people.”
Treays also expressed his happiness about returning to Reading. “It’s so lovely to be back,” he said. “I felt really welcome.”
He remains proud of his older songs and understands their importance to fans. “I’m really happy to play them because it’s so rare to have anything that hits like that,” he said. “I’m very proud of that.”
