Meghan pointed to one example involving a young girl who searched online for healthy recipes. However, the content quickly changed and began showing body image posts and pro-anorexia videos. According to Meghan, the girl later spent months in hospital with a severe eating disorder.
She also shared the story of a teenage boy who turned to social media after a painful breakup. Meghan said online platforms targeted his emotional state and began showing harmful content related to suicide. She argued that such cases reveal a wider problem rather than isolated incidents.
Furthermore, Meghan warned that the rise of artificial intelligence could make online risks even worse. She said advanced technology may strengthen algorithms that already target young users with harmful material. Therefore, she urged governments and technology companies to take stronger action.
Social media warning remained the central message throughout her speech. Meghan stressed that children and parents should not carry the blame when platforms actively promote dangerous content. Instead, she called for accountability from the companies that design these systems.
