Henry Nowak Probe: Officers Face Misconduct Investigation

Must read

The Henry Nowak probe has entered a major new stage after the police watchdog launched an investigation into two officers involved in his arrest.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct confirmed the move on Tuesday. The watchdog said both Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary officers now face scrutiny for possible gross misconduct. The Henry Nowak probe focuses on the officers who first arrived at the scene on December 3, 2025. Investigators said the pair may have failed to respond properly after Nowak told them he had been stabbed.

According to the watchdog, the officers may have breached several professional standards. These include duties and responsibilities, use of force, and discreditable conduct. Furthermore, investigators are examining whether the officers ignored signs that Nowak needed urgent medical help. They also want to know why the officers arrested and handcuffed him instead of giving first aid.

In addition, one officer faces questions over their conduct at the scene. The watchdog said evidence suggests the officer may have dismissed Nowak’s pleas after he said he could not breathe. As a result, the case has sparked anger and concern among the public. Nowak’s family has already filed formal complaints against the force.

The Henry Nowak probe will also examine whether race or religion played a role in the officers’ decisions. Investigators want to establish if bias or assumptions affected how the situation unfolded. Meanwhile, the watchdog will compare how officers treated Nowak with how they handled the arrests of the Digwa family.

IOPC Director Derrick Campbell said the incident may have damaged public trust in the police. He stressed that restoring confidence remains a key part of the investigation. However, Campbell also made clear that gross misconduct notices do not automatically lead to disciplinary action. Instead, investigators will review all evidence before making a final decision.

At the same time, community leaders have called for transparency as the investigation continues. Many want answers about the events leading up to the arrest. For now, the Henry Nowak probe remains ongoing. However, its findings could have serious consequences for the officers and the force itself.
