Russia has warned that it could strike British military targets over the UK’s support for Ukraine. Moscow issued the warning as tensions between the two countries continued to rise.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Russia could target British military sites inside and outside Ukraine. She linked the warning to Ukrainian strikes using British-supplied missiles.
Zakharova also accused Britain and France of “playing with fire.” She criticized their decision to provide Ukraine with sensitive missile technology.
Britain recently agreed to give Ukraine access to classified technology. The move will help Kyiv develop domestic production of Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles. France has also approved technology licensing for the European missile.
The Kremlin strongly criticized the decision. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the move would add “fuel to the fire” and increase tensions.
The latest warning follows British Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s visit to Kyiv. During the visit, Burnham met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reaffirmed Britain’s support for Ukraine.
Burnham has rejected Russian threats and defended continued British assistance. He also urged Ukraine’s allies to provide more air-defense missiles as Russian attacks continue.
Meanwhile, Kremlin adviser Andrei Fedorov previously warned that British factories could face attacks from unknown groups. He said Russia could consider political, cyber or semi-military responses.
Fedorov specifically mentioned factories producing drones for Ukraine. However, he did not say Russia would officially carry out such attacks.
The latest threats show how sharply relations between London and Moscow have deteriorated. Britain remains one of Ukraine’s strongest European supporters.
Russia has repeatedly warned Western countries against increasing military assistance to Kyiv. Britain, however, says Russian threats will not change its position.
The dispute now raises concerns about further escalation between Russia and the UK. It also highlights the growing risks surrounding Western military support for Ukraine.
