Trump Proposes New Plan Featuring an International Board of Peace for Gaza

Must read

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair may soon take a major role. US President Donald Trump has announced a new peace plan. This plan specifically aims to end the long-running war in Gaza. Trump revealed that Sir Tony Blair wants to join a new international body. This body will be called the International Board of Peace for Gaza. Blair would become its first named member.

President Trump will personally chair this powerful new board. The board’s main task is temporary supervision of Gaza’s governance. This would only happen if Hamas accepts the proposed ceasefire terms. Trump promised to name leaders from other countries later. The board is a key part of a broader twenty-point American plan.

Sir Tony Blair expressed strong support for the initiative. He called the proposals the best chance for peace. He stated they could end two years of war and misery. Blair served as UK Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007. He also has previous experience as a Middle East envoy. In this role, he focused on Palestinian economic development.

A Palestinian source confirmed that Hamas officials received the proposal. However, a senior Hamas official gave a cautious response. The group remains open to studying any plan that ends the war. Nevertheless, any final agreement must safeguard Palestinian interests. It must also ensure a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

The newly unveiled plan promises an immediate end to the war. It would begin with a swift hostage and prisoner exchange. All living Israeli hostages would return within seventy-two hours. Israel would then release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Full aid would immediately flow into the devastated territory.

Furthermore, a multinational stabilisation force would deploy. This force would support security and train local police. Israeli forces would subsequently withdraw in stages. Crucially, the plan outlines a new temporary governance structure. A technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee would handle daily services.

This committee would operate under strict oversight. The powerful International Board of Peace for Gaza would provide this supervision. The plan explicitly bars Hamas from any future governance role. It leaves the door open for a Palestinian state eventually. However, this requires the Palestinian Authority to implement sweeping reforms.

Trump issued a stern warning to Hamas. He said they should accept this deal. Otherwise, Israel would have his full backing to continue military actions. The president also criticized recent recognitions of Palestinian statehood. He called decisions by the UK and others foolish.

Blair’s potential involvement has drawn significant attention. His office previously vowed not to support plans involving forced displacement. This new plan appears to mark a shift from earlier ideas. An earlier concept involved a US takeover of Gaza. The current proposal centers on the International Board of Peace for Gaza as the path to stability.
