King Charles III will urge Commonwealth nations to work together so the organisation can remain a “force for good.” His remarks appear in the annual Commonwealth Day message released ahead of Monday’s celebrations.
In the statement, the King acknowledges the global challenges facing many nations. He says communities across the world are dealing with conflict, climate change, and rapid transformation. However, he adds that difficult moments often reveal the Commonwealth’s enduring spirit.
Commonwealth Day will be marked with a traditional service at Westminster Abbey. Around 1,800 guests, including politicians, diplomats, and members of the royal family, will attend the event.
Among the attendees will be Queen Camilla alongside Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales. The Princess Anne and her husband Tim Laurence will also be present.
In his message, the King emphasises cooperation among the Commonwealth’s 56 member nations. He says collective action can strengthen communities, support sustainable development, and protect the planet. According to Charles, unity and friendship remain central to the organisation’s purpose.
The service will also feature several cultural contributions. Geri Halliwell-Horner, an ambassador for the Royal Commonwealth Society, will deliver an address during the event. In addition, former Strictly Come Dancing judge Oti Mabuse will share a reflection.
Poet Selina Tusitala Marsh, the first Commonwealth poet laureate, will present a reading. Meanwhile, composer Rekesh Chauhan will debut the new Commonwealth Symphony.
The programme will also highlight cultural collaboration across the Commonwealth. Performances will include a Scottish ceilidh band, the Melodians Steel Orchestra, and a dance piece combining classical ballet with Bollywood influences.
As head of the Commonwealth, King Charles sends an annual Commonwealth Day message to its member nations. The organisation will also hold its next leaders’ meeting later this year in St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda.
Through his message, the King emphasises that cooperation remains essential. He says nations can strengthen the Commonwealth’s role in addressing global challenges and supporting prosperity for its people.
