King Charles III and Queen Camilla have begun their US state visit after arriving in Maryland on Sunday. The four-day trip marks the first official state visit since the reign of Queen Elizabeth II in 2007. The visit focuses on strengthening ties between the United Kingdom and the United States.

The royal couple arrived at Joint Base Andrews, where officials welcomed them with a ceremonial reception. A guard of honour greeted them as a military band played both national anthems. Children of UK service personnel stationed in the United States also presented flowers during the arrival.
After the formal welcome, King Charles and Queen Camilla travelled to the White House for an afternoon tea. They met US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump as part of the opening day schedule. The leaders gathered on a red carpet before moving inside for private conversations.

Photographs showed the two couples exchanging greetings and speaking in a relaxed setting. They also shared moments during a garden tour at the White House. Officials showcased a beehive project inspired by the White House grounds, which forms part of an environmental initiative.
Queen Camilla later attended a separate garden party at the British Embassy in Washington. She met military cadets and representatives from organisations supporting survivors of domestic abuse. The Queen also spoke with campaigners working on social support initiatives.
King Charles also took part in several engagements during the embassy reception. He spoke with British diver Tom Daley, who now lives in the United States. He also met former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other invited guests.
The visit comes at a symbolic moment as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary of independence. Officials say the trip aims to highlight shared history and ongoing cooperation between the two nations. Diplomatic meetings throughout the week will focus on cultural and political ties.
Security remains tight around all scheduled events during the visit. Authorities have coordinated arrangements between UK and US teams to manage logistics and safety. Organisers expect further engagements in Washington and other locations over the coming days.
The state visit continues with additional official events planned later in the week. Both countries hope the programme will reinforce diplomatic relations and public engagement.
