Hayes stabbing detectives have charged a man with murder after a 24-year-old woman died in a fatal attack in west London. The Hayes stabbing also left a man in his 20s in hospital with injuries, although doctors do not consider them life-threatening. Police continue investigating the case while specialist officers support the victims’ families.
Metropolitan Police officers responded to reports of a stabbing at a property on Uxbridge Road in Hayes on Sunday. London Ambulance Service crews arrived shortly afterwards.
Emergency crews found 24-year-old Kirandeep Kaur inside the property with serious stab wounds. Despite extensive medical treatment, she died at the scene.
Officers also found a man in his 20s outside the property with stab injuries. Paramedics took him to hospital, where he continues receiving treatment. Doctors expect him to recover from injuries that are not life-threatening. After securing the scene, officers searched the surrounding area for the suspect. They quickly located 44-year-old Daniel Sean James nearby and arrested him.
Police said James suffered injuries after reportedly jumping from a window during the incident. Medical staff treated him before prosecutors charged him with murder, attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. James later appeared before Willesden Magistrates’ Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo described the attack as a shocking incident. He said investigators are working to establish exactly what happened while supporting everyone affected. Specialist officers continue supporting Kirandeep Kaur’s family after her death. They are also helping the injured man’s relatives while he recovers in hospital.
Investigators believe the attack was an isolated incident. Therefore, police do not believe the public faces any wider threat. Even so, officers have increased patrols across Hayes to reassure residents. Detectives continue appealing for witnesses. They particularly want to hear from anyone who noticed suspicious activity near Uxbridge Road before or after the attack.
Investigators also encourage anyone with mobile phone footage, dashcam recordings or CCTV images to contact the Metropolitan Police. Detectives continue collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, the attack has raised concerns among some members of the Sikh community. Several community organisations have questioned whether anti-Sikh hatred motivated the attack. Police have not identified a motive. Instead, detectives continue examining every possible line of enquiry.
The incident follows another high-profile criminal case involving members of the British Sikh community earlier this year. Community organisations have also continued highlighting reports of anti-Sikh hate crime across the United Kingdom. The Sikh Network plans to present findings from a recent survey to Parliament. According to the organisation, many respondents experienced or witnessed anti-Sikh hate incidents.
However, detectives have not connected those survey findings to the Hayes stabbing investigation. Police continue urging the public to avoid speculation while enquiries remain ongoing. Anyone with information should contact the Metropolitan Police or report information anonymously through Crimestoppers.
Detectives continue examining evidence as they prepare the Hayes stabbing case for future court proceedings.
