Ghosts, ghouls, and vampires took over Coalisland in County Tyrone during the town’s lively Halloween parade. The streets filled with laughter, color, and spooky excitement as children and families celebrated one of the most anticipated events of the school year.

The annual Halloween parade, hosted by Primate Dixon Primary School, has grown into a cherished local tradition. Each year, pupils and parents come together to mark the spooky season with costumes, music, and smiles. The event has become a highlight for both young people and the wider community.

Principal Seán Dillon described the celebration as a “day of madness” that everyone looks forward to. According to him, the goal is simple: to have fun and bring the community together. He said that the school has organized dressing-up days for many years, but now the event spills joyfully into the town itself.

This year’s Halloween parade began at 11:00 GMT on Wednesday. Hundreds of children, teachers, and families left the school grounds and walked proudly through the town centre. Traffic came to a brief standstill as the crowd made its way along the main streets. The sound of laughter and music echoed through Coalisland, creating an atmosphere of celebration and unity.

The young participants wore an incredible variety of costumes. Frankie and Annalise said they loved spotting their parents in the crowd and seeing all the creative outfits. Ollie, dressed as a dead golfer, enjoyed walking alongside his friends the most. Meanwhile, Evelyn said she picked her killer clown costume simply because she thought it looked very scary.

Adding to the fun, stilt walkers joined the march and waved to the cheering spectators. A haunted red pick-up truck led the way, blasting upbeat music from portable speakers. Residents lined the streets, clapping and taking photos as the group looped around town before heading back to school.

Principal Dillon emphasized that the event focuses on joy and togetherness. He said that primary school children should always have opportunities to laugh and express themselves. For him, this celebration captures the true spirit of Coalisland—community pride mixed with creativity and fun.

By the time the Halloween parade ended, smiles filled every face. Children waved goodbye as they returned to school, still buzzing with excitement. Once again, Coalisland had proven that there is no better way to celebrate the season than through its unforgettable Halloween parade.
