Makerfield by-election tensions have escalated after Nigel Farage launched a fresh attack on Andy Burnham during a growing Brexit dispute.
Initially, the political row began after Wes Streeting said Britain should rebuild closer ties with the European Union. He made the remarks while discussing a future Labour leadership bid. Soon after, Farage used those comments to challenge Labour’s position. He claimed senior figures were preparing to reverse Brexit despite earlier promises.

More recently, local election results increased pressure on Labour in the seat. Reform won all eight council wards across much of the constituency.
