Stafford stabbing has sparked a major police investigation after a man suffered life-threatening injuries near a golf course in Stafford.
Police launched a large-scale search after the attack happened near Stafford Castle on Thursday evening. Officers said the victim, a man in his 60s, remains in critical condition in hospital. Emergency crews rushed to the scene on Newport Road at around 7pm. The attack happened near Castle Golf and Leisure, where the victim had been walking along a footpath.
Investigators believe the man walked through the Castlefields area when someone approached him from behind. The attacker then seriously injured him before leaving the scene. A member of the public found the injured man sitting on a bench and called emergency services. Paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to hospital for urgent care.
Stafford stabbing has since prompted a widespread manhunt across the town. Police officers continue to patrol the area while specialist teams carry out forensic work. Detectives also set up a large cordon near the golf course. Officers have searched nearby streets, open land, and surrounding footpaths as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police described the suspect as a man in his mid-to-late 20s. He has an average build and wore dark clothing at the time of the incident. Officers also said the suspect may be of Eastern European descent. However, detectives have not made any arrests at this stage.
As the investigation continues, local residents have reported a heavy police presence across Castlefields. Several roads near the scene remained closed while officers gathered evidence. Detectives urged anyone who visited the area between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday to come forward. They also asked drivers and homeowners to check dashcam and CCTV footage.
A senior investigating officer said every piece of information could help identify the suspect. Police believe even small details may prove important. Stafford stabbing has raised concern among residents because of the random nature of the attack. Police said incidents like this remain rare in the area.
Even so, officers increased patrols to reassure the public. Community officers have also spoken with residents near the scene. Meanwhile, forensic teams continue to examine the footpath and surrounding land. Officers said the operation will remain active while the search continues.
Stafford stabbing remains the focus of a major inquiry as police work to track down the suspect and understand the motive behind the attack.
