HBO Max Dominates Emmy Nominations As The Pitt and Hacks Lead 2026 Race

Emmy nominations have placed HBO Max at the forefront of this year’s television awards race, with The Pitt and Hacks emerging as the biggest contenders for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards. The Television Academy announced the nominations on Wednesday, confirming another dominant year for the streaming platform. Overall, HBO Max collected 122 nominations, while its hit series earned recognition across both drama and comedy categories.

Medical drama The Pitt led all programmes with 25 nominations, continuing its remarkable rise after becoming one of television’s biggest breakout successes. Meanwhile, Hacks topped the comedy field with 24 nominations. The show’s final season also set a new record for the most Emmy nominations ever received by a comedy series, surpassing the previous mark shared by The Studio and The Bear.

HBO Max also secured three nominees in both the Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Comedy Series categories, reinforcing its strong presence across the major awards.

Noah Wyle received another nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in The Pitt. In addition, he earned recognition for both directing and producing the series. Katherine LaNasa also returned to the Supporting Actress category, while Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif and Sepideh Moafi joined her among this year’s nominees. Altogether, The Pitt claimed four of the seven Supporting Actress nominations and three Supporting Actor nominations in the drama categories.

Hacks continued its impressive awards streak as Jean Smart earned another nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She has won the award for each of the show’s previous four seasons. Hannah Einbinder also received her fifth career Emmy nomination after winning Supporting Actress last year. Meanwhile, series co-creator Paul W. Downs collected three nominations for acting, writing and producing.

Apple TV enjoyed a successful year as several new series received widespread recognition. Pluribus collected 18 nominations during its debut season, while creator Vince Gilligan celebrated another awards success. Lead star Rhea Seehorn earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Another Apple TV newcomer, Widow’s Bay, followed closely with 19 nominations. Matthew Rhys received recognition for acting in the series, producing it and starring in the limited series The Beast In Me. Additionally, Apple TV secured Outstanding Comedy Series nominations for Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Shrinking. Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jason Segel and Harrison Ford all received acting nominations.

Martin Short also continued his long Emmy run. The Only Murders in the Building star earned three nominations covering acting, producing and hosting duties. His documentary, Marty, Life Is Short, added two more nominations. Jason Bateman also enjoyed a strong showing with four nominations for his work on Black Rabbit and DTF St. Louis.

Network television remained represented through Abbott Elementary, which earned seven nominations. Creator and star Quinta Brunson received three individual nominations, continuing the sitcom’s awards success.

Several familiar names also appeared in the guest performance categories. The late Rob Reiner received a posthumous nomination for his appearance in The Bear. Michael J. Fox also earned recognition for his guest role in Shrinking, where he portrayed a character living with Parkinson’s disease.

Music productions featured strongly this year as well. Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show collected nine nominations across multiple categories. Taylor Swift also received five nominations for The Eras Tour – The Final Show concert special, including recognition as one of the production’s producers.

Late-night television also remained competitive despite recent changes across the industry. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert received nine nominations, while Jimmy Kimmel Live! collected six.

The winners of the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced later this year, celebrating the biggest achievements in television over the past 12 months.
