Lily Allen Apologises to Katy Perry After Criticising Blue Origin Space Flight

Must read

Singer Lily Allen has issued a public apology to Katy Perry following her harsh comments about Perry’s recent 11-minute trip aboard Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin rocket.

Last week, Allen criticised Perry and the all-female crew on her podcast, questioning the timing of such an expensive venture amid economic hardship. She remarked, “Do we want to talk about Katy Perry and her mates all going up to space for 12 minutes? What the f****** hell is that about?” Allen added that many people are “really f****** struggling” just to pay their bills.

On her Miss Me? show, the 39-year-old admitted she targeted Perry unfairly. “It was completely unnecessary to pile on her,” Allen said. “I disagree with what they did, but she wasn’t the only person who did it. Yet she’s the most famous, and that made her an easy target.”

Perry, 40, flew alongside Bezos’s girlfriend Lauren Sanchez and three other female pioneers. They all described their sub-orbital journey as “life-changing.” While several stars celebrated the mission, a number of high-profile voices—including Allen—voiced criticism.

Allen’s apology marks a rare public retreat. She concluded: “I regret making it personal. My frustration was with the concept, not with Katy herself.”
