France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy have welcomed the new agreement between the United States and Iran. The four countries described the deal as a major diplomatic breakthrough. They also urged both sides to move quickly and complete the next stage of negotiations.

The four European governments issued a joint statement early Monday after officials revealed that Washington and Tehran had reached a memorandum of understanding. The leaders praised everyone who took part in the negotiations. They also thanked mediators, including Pakistan and Qatar, for helping the talks succeed.

The leaders described the agreement as a chance to improve regional stability. They also said it could strengthen the global economy and reduce tensions across the Middle East. In addition, they stressed the need to finish detailed negotiations without delay.

The four countries said they stand ready to support the process. They encouraged the United States and Iran to put the agreement into action as quickly as possible. European leaders believe a successful outcome can create a foundation for long-term peace.

The statement also focused on the Strait of Hormuz. The leaders called for the immediate reopening of the strategic waterway. They insisted that commercial shipping should enjoy unconditional and unrestricted freedom of navigation.

The four countries also outlined several support measures. They said they could launch a strictly defensive and independent mission if needed. Such an effort would reassure commercial shipping and help clear mines from key routes. Each nation would act within its own constitutional requirements.

France, the UK, Germany and Italy repeated their long-standing position on Iran’s nuclear programme. They insisted that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon. They also pledged to work closely with the United States, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency to support that goal.

European leaders added that they may ease sanctions if Iran takes clear and verifiable steps on its nuclear activities. They argued that transparency and cooperation remain essential for lasting progress.

The four governments also reaffirmed their support for Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity. They backed efforts to preserve the current ceasefire and reduce the risk of further regional conflict.

The announcement followed reports of a wider peace agreement between the United States and Iran. US Vice President JD Vance described the breakthrough as a significant achievement for American diplomacy.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that both countries had reached a peace deal after intensive negotiations. He said the agreement includes an immediate and permanent end to military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon.

Sharif also confirmed that officials plan to hold a formal signing ceremony in Switzerland on June 19. The event will mark the next stage of the agreement.

US President Donald Trump also confirmed that negotiators had finalised the deal. He announced plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and remove the US naval blockade. In a social media message, Trump declared that international shipping and energy exports could resume immediately.

The four European leaders ended their statement by promising continued cooperation with the United States, Iran and regional partners. They said they want to maintain momentum and help secure a lasting diplomatic settlement for the region.
