The Royal and VIP Executive Committee, known as RAVEC, oversees protective security arrangements in the UK. The independent committee operates under the Home Office.
Harry reportedly informed RAVEC as soon as his representatives considered it practical. Concerns about information leaks reportedly influenced the timing.
The family also needed confirmation of school places before announcing their plans. Harry reportedly wanted to tell his father, King Charles, before informing others.
Reports suggest Harry and Meghan told the King about their plans on August 16. The couple then arrived at Birmingham Airport on Wednesday.
The Sussexes reportedly plan to remain in Britain for an extended period. Reports have also linked the family to a possible home in the Cotswolds.
Harry and Meghan lost their automatic taxpayer-funded security after stepping back from royal duties in 2020. RAVEC now reviews Harry’s security needs on an individual basis during UK visits.
