Foreign Secretary David Lammy has called Israel’s decision to deny entry to two Labour MPs “unacceptable, counterproductive, and deeply concerning.”
Abtisam Mohamed (Sheffield Central) and Yuan Yang (Earley and Woodley) were barred from entering the country on Saturday, along with two aides. Israeli authorities accused the group of planning to “spread hate speech” and “document the security forces.”
Lammy said he had raised the issue directly with Israeli officials, insisting, “This is no way to treat British Parliamentarians.” The Foreign Office confirmed the MPs were part of a parliamentary delegation, though Israel disputed this, claiming no official recognition of the visit.
The MPs were detained and then deported early Sunday. Lammy reiterated the UK’s focus on restoring a ceasefire and ending the conflict in Gaza.
